A Headshot of Nick Lauener, pianist, composer, classical and scottish musician

Nick Lauener

Pianist and Composer

Nick Lauener is a pianist and composer writing solo piano music that combines the Classical with the Scottish Tradition.

At the heart of all his music making is Nick’s love for the piano, a love which lead him to study and be classically trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His musical education began however with lessons from a local fiddle player, and his heart has always been drawn to the soulful tunes of this Scottish heritage. His compositions are an individual and mesmerising fusion of the lush harmonies and contrapuntal technique of classical piano music, and the earthy, heartfelt melodies of Scottish folk music. Nick’s music aims to transport audiences through landscape and memory, evoking the spirit of ancient ballads and the energy of lively ceilidh dances.

As a solo and collaborative pianist he has performed to audiences across the UK and abroad, including at the Edinburgh International Festival, Wigmore Hall, and has been played on both BBC radio 3 and on national television.
